surfboard-rusty-tec-moby-fish-quad
Surfboard RUSTY TEC Moby Fish Quad
In 2005 I built my first 4-fin Moby. I had surfed it in the surf up to about 5 feet and really liked it. One day I thought the surf was pretty small, so I took my Moby to Blacks. Nothing else. I was very lucky to have a key. When I got down to the road, the surf looked just as I had imagined it would. Quite small, but clean. I put on my wetsuit, got the Moby out of the back of my truck and closed the hatch. I looked at the lineup. A solid 6-foot set. Fuck. Well, it was the only board I had with me, so off I went.
On my first wave I fell, thinking I really needed to pull back on the reins. No. The board took off like a bat out of hell. There was no end to the top. A few waves later I was totally sold on the design and versatility.
It soon became very popular, some of my good friends had this board. Interestingly, their sons, some of the best LJ reef surfers, tried it out and wouldn't give it back. They ordered duplicates. Not smaller, slimmer versions. The same boards. They actually rode them on the bigger days.
Because of its size, it's a great board for beginners and a good alternative to a longboard. As it turned out, it is suitable for all skill levels and surfers. The entry rocker is moderate, which helps when paddling. The exit rocker is more average, which helps with turning and blends in better with the waves. The fuller outline offers plenty of surface area: planing and speed. The rails are fuller, but a little edgier with a lower apex that provides lift and control.
If I only had one board, this would be it. Pure fun.
Dimensions: 7.8 x 23 x 3.31 - 67.2 liters
4 fin quad setup, fits Futures fins
Scope of delivery: Board without fins
TEC - TORQ EPOXY COMPOSITE
Torq Epoxy Composite offers high performance shapes in our state of the art epoxy layup. These boards offer the best balance between lightness and durability. With our own unique lamination process we are able to use a very strong 6oz and 4oz fiberglass layup in a three layer deck and a two layer base (with a four layer rail overlap) with a high density EPS foam and still achieve a board weight equivalent to a lightweight fiberglass layup.
The result is a lightweight but very stable board with good flex characteristics and as with all torq's an excellent price/performance ratio.
