KITESURFING EQUIPMENT

Westwind sells a large selection of kitesurfing equipment. We have equipment to suit all levels. Kites, kiteboards, kitebars, kite trapezes & many other kite accessories can be found here on the site, but also in our physical stores. With such a large range of kite related products, you can be sure that you have ended up in the right place if you are looking for new kitesurfing gear. In the following sections we will briefly introduce you to the products that together make up a full kitesurfing set.

Are you a complete beginner and have a strong desire to start kitesurfing? We would always recommend that you take a kitesurf course. The reason for this is that a course, in addition to being an extremely fun experience, will give you a good understanding of kitesurfing equipment. An understanding that cannot be achieved in the same way by simply reading about the sport on the internet. At Westwind we offer a wide range of kitesurfing courses spread out across our various locations. You can read more about these courses by following the link here.

The kite/dragon

The most defining product for the kite setup is of course the kite, also called the dragon. The kite will typically be made of polyester, as this material is very resistant to UV radiation. Polyester is also waterproof and the kite will therefore not become heavier upon impact in the water.

A kite also has a bladder, which when inflated gives the kite its characteristic shape. This bladder is inflated when you are going on the water, and the air is released after you have been on the water. In this way, the kite does not take up much space, which makes it easy to transport. When buying a kite, a smart backpack will always be included in which the kite can be stored. Before packing the kite into the backpack, it is recommended that it is dry, as this will increase the durability and performance of the product. Especially in cases where the kite is to be packed into the backpack for a longer period.

Kites will most often be designed and crafted to accelerate within a specific kite discipline. Therefore, it is important that you have considered what type of kite you want before making your purchase. The primary kite disciplines are roughly; freeride, wave, big air & freestyle. Kitefoiling is also a discipline that is currently experiencing great popularity. However, it must be said that even if a kite is tied to a specific discipline, it will in some cases be able to function for other disciplines. Duotone Evo, for example, is a good all-round kite that works great for both freeride, wave & freestyle.

Kite bar

To control your kite you need a kitebar. In most cases, the kitebar comes with a set of kite liners. The combination of kitebar, liner and kite enables you to control your kite. An ability that of course requires a little practice! See our large selection of quality kitebars by following the link here.

Kite trapeze

Kitesurfing would be very physically demanding if you were to hold the kite with your arms for an entire session. Fortunately, a kite harness was invented for this. The kite harness has a hook that allows you to connect your body to the kite bar and thus the kite. This is possible because the kite bar is equipped with a flexible ring/loop, which in technical terms is called a chicken loop. The chicken loop, which is located on the bar, can be hooked into the harness hook and used to connect the kite to the kiter. This means that the kite's pulling force no longer rests on the kitesurfer's arms, but on the entire body. This enables you to be on the water for longer. We have a large selection of both hip and seat harnesses for kitesurfing. Check out the selection by following the link here.

Kiteboarding

Last but not least, kitesurfing wouldn't be kitesurfing without a kiteboard. The two primary types of kiteboards are twintips and directional/wave boards.

Twintips are wakeboard-like boards that have two bindings in which you can keep your feet well positioned while kiting. The twintip board is characterized by its symmetrical shape. This has the advantage that you can kit in both directions (upwind and downwind) without having to change foot position on the board. Twintip boards are especially good for freestyle and big air.

Directional boards are surfboard-like boards that are designed to give a relaxed surfing feel when riding them. Unlike twintips, directional boards do not have bindings and are directional. It typically takes more training to kitesurf a directional/wave kiteboard compared to a twintip board. Therefore, it is also recommended that you start your kitesurfing adventure on a twintip board.

Luckily, we stock a wide range of both twintip and directional kitesurf boards. So whatever your preferences or level, we're sure to have a board that's just right for you. Check out our selection by following the link here, or navigate to our kitesurf board category

Used kitesurfing equipment

Kitesurfing equipment is like all other water sports equipment a bit pricey. That's why every year we offer our customers to buy our rental equipment, kitesurfing school equipment and demo kitesurfing equipment. In this way, we give you a good opportunity to save a good coin by buying used equipment from Westwind. When you buy used from Westwind you are of course also sure that the equipment is fully functional. At the same time, we will always describe the condition of the product and if the equipment needs any repairs. Check out our used equipment by following the linkhere.
