WINGS FOR WINGSURFING
Wingsurfing is the new thing. The water sport combines many cool aspects from other surf disciplines such as: windsurfing, wave surfing and kite surfing. However, with the added detail that in wingsurfing, use is made of the popular oneshydrofoils. Foils create lift and with just a bit of momentum the rider will suddenly float effortlessly over the surface of the water. It is the combination of a hydrofoil and a relatively easy-to-handle wing that makes the sport so entertaining and exciting.
Get the best wingsurfing experience with the right wing
Wings are of course central to being able to wingsurf. Wings are designed to catch as much wind as possible and thus give the wingsurfer the opportunity to glide across the water on the wingboard.
Wings are made of lightweight materials, mostly dacron or nylon, and are designed to have a large surface area. The light weight and the large surface area provide fantastic traction, and with the foil under the board, you are up and going quickly. Most wings are also equipped with a hand strap located in the nose of the wing. In addition, through the center of the wing will be placed either a boom or two handles, which are used to steer, adjust and control it.
Wing size
Wings come in several different sizes. The sizes will be calculated in m2. Typically these sizes are found from 3.0-7.0 m2. When you choose wing size, there are a number of factors that come into play. These are, among other things; your body weight, your wingsurf level and of course wind speed. A smaller wing will thus be good for the lightweight rider or the less experienced. This is because a smaller wing is easier to handle while still generating a solid traction force. The larger wings of course generate greater traction, but require a rider with some experience to be able to control.
Finally, it is also important to take the weather and wind conditions into account when you go out winging. Wingsurfing usually does not require as much wind as other wind-related water sports disciplines, which for many seems to be a huge advantage.
Wing designs
Wings are available in several different designs and colors, and there will typically be something for every taste. Wing designs are typically targeted at a specific wing discipline, for example wave freestyle, freeride or downwind. Common to all designs is that a wing is inflatable and can therefore be packed very compactly into a storage rucksack, which is included with the purchase of a new wing.
