Our story
WestWind has been a regular part of the Danish surfing and water sports scene since the 1980s. We are among the country's oldest surfshops and have been with me from the time when the first windsurf boards found their way to Denmark!
WestWind's history begins in the early 1980s with two parallel tales in Bork Harbor and Hvide Sande.
Jens Madsen, a passionate windsurfer, opens the surf shop Intersurf at Bryggen in Bork Havn, where he also establishes a surf school. Inspired by his own experiences on the water, he creates a local gathering point for surfers.
At the same time in Hvide Sande, René Lagoni Surf School runs from his father's kiosk at the surfing square north of the city. He starts selling surf equipment and picking up goods from suppliers in Sunds and Esbjerg, which customers can pick up the same day. Over time, René extends with a small stall that acts as a surf shop.
Two passions for surfing lay the foundation of WestWind.

With five stores located in unique spots across Hvide Sande and Bork Havn, WestWind is much more than just a shop – we are a meeting point for everyone who shares our passion for water sports.
Today, WestWind is run by Martin Velling and Finn Diercks, together with a team of the West Coast’s most dedicated and experienced surfers, all driven by a passion for creating the best possible setting for both equipment and experiences. Our work is rooted in our strong connection to Ringkøbing Fjord and the surrounding coastline, and we always strive to offer the very best in water sports and coastal lifestyle.
Courses & Camps
Our courses and camps are a huge part of who we are. Here we learn you not just the technique - we also give you experiences that create memories for life. From wind-related water sports on the fjord such as wing, wind and kitesurfing to surf and SUP in the North Sea - we offer something for everyone.
We know how much water sports mean to our students because it means just as much to us. It's more than just a hobby - it's a lifestyle. And we are here to make sure you have the best equipment, the best teaching and the best service so you can enjoy your time, in and around the water fully!

Our stores reflect the passion we have for water sports!
In Hvide Sande you will find four locations: two large surfing centers located with direct access and views of Ringkøbing Fjord, a combined surfshop and Lifestyle store in the heart of Hvide Sande Midtby, and a cozy café with surf school, just a stone's throw from the dunes, the North Sea and the city's southern beach.
Further south, at the bottom of the fjord, is our surf center in Bork Havn, which serves both as a store and the starting point for courses and experiences.
