Windsurf sails
Windsurf sails come in a wide variety of sizes and types, designed to accommodate specific wind conditions, rider levels and windsurfing disciplines. Sail choice can have a big impact on the performance and windsurfing experience. That is why we want to give a short introduction to the different windsurf sail types.
How do you choose the right windsurf sail?
It is important to choose the right windsurf sail that suits your level and the wind conditions you want to sail in. If you are a beginner, you will typically need a smaller sail as it is easier to handle in light winds. If, on the other hand, you are a more experienced windsurfer, you will probably need a larger sail that can provide more speed and power.
Different types of windsurfing sails:
There are two main types of windsurf sails: cambered non-cambered. Cambered sails have multiple panels that help the sail keep its shape and improve efficiency in the wind. Non-cambered sails are simpler and easier to handle, but may lack some power in strong winds.
Freeride Sails:
Windsurf freeride sails are designed for the versatile windsurfer. Freeride sails are usually non-cambered and have a flatter profile. This composition provides a more stable and easy sailing in moderate wind conditions. Freeride sails are also easy to handle and offer good acceleration. Freeride sails are also suitable for many beginners.
Wave Sails:
Windsurf wave sails are designed to withstand and tame the forces of the sea. The sails are designed with a big eye for durability in mind. The Wave sail is often smaller and structurally stronger compared to other sail types and has a rounder profile that provides more control and steering precision. They are also camberless, which makes handling easier when you are out in the waves.
Freestyle Sail:
Windsurf freestyle sails are designed to be able to do freestyle manoeuvres. These sails often have a smaller size and are camberless to give more flexibility and freedom of movement on the board. They have a flatter profile, which creates fertile ground for more acceleration and power in gusts.
Slalom and race sails:
Windsurf slalom and race sails are designed for speed and racing. These sails are often cambered and have a larger size to provide more power and acceleration in high wind conditions. They also have a more aggressive profile, which gives more speed and stability on the board.s
