STAND UP PADDLING

Stand Up Paddling or SUP has become an enormously popular water sport and for good reason! There are a multitude of SUP disciplines today and therefore a great chance that the sport will appeal to you in one way or another. Whether it's SUP surfing in the waves, a calm trip down the river or racing on the lake, we have the board and equipment that suits your exact wishes with the sport.

Inflatable SUP

The most popular type of SUP is the inflatable one. The inflatable SUP is brilliant in many ways. First and foremost, the biggest advantage of this type of board is that it is inflatable and can therefore be packed very compactly. A huge advantage if there is not much luggage space in the car, but also an advantage if you are not able to strap a large board to a set of roof racks. At the same time, this type of board is also perfect if you want to have a fun activity lying around in the summer house. Again because the board can be packed away and stored without taking up too much space. When you buy an inflatable SUP board, it will most often be as a package solution. The package solution will typically contain a board, paddle, fins, pump and storage/transport backpack, but information about this will usually be found in the product description. We at Westwind love the many advantages and possibilities that lie in the inflatable SUPs and we can highly recommend these boards as perfect beginner SUP boards.

Hardtop SUP boards

Hardtop SUP boards cover a wide range of SUP boards, from various race boards to the more wave oriented boards. Overall, these boards are a bit expensive compared to the inflatable SUPs. This is because the production process is longer and more complex. A hardtop SUP board will have a core of either EPS or PU foam and will be covered with several layers of fiberglass coated with either epoxy or polyester resin. These boards have a fantastic glide!

SUP paddles

The paddle is the SUP surfer's most important tool. In many ways, it can be compared to a classic oar, which can be found in many small dinghies or inflatable boats. Today, SUP paddles come in many different designs and qualities. Most paddles are adjustable and can therefore be adjusted to your paddling technique and height. You can see our large selection of paddles under. our SUP paddle category.

SUP Leash

It is important to have a leash connected between you and your board. Many people prefer to use a so-called coiled leash when they SUP surf. This is because the coil leash is not in the water when you SUP and you therefore avoid unnecessary drag. Check out coil leashes as well as other popular SUP leashes by navigating to our SUP leash category.

Life jacket during SUP surfing

Remember that it is a legal requirement to wear a CE-marked swimming or life jacket when you are out on your Stand Up Paddle. If you are in need of a vest, you are welcome to check out our range of vests under the category vests and impact At the bottom of the page you can read much more about the functions and benefits of the different types of life jackets.
