To get started windsurfing, you need windsurfing equipment.
consisting of a windsurfing board and a windsurfing rig. The windsurfing rig is
the term for the combination of: windsurf sail, mast, boom, mast foot and
mast extension. The term windsurfing equipment thus covers a number of
products that together offer tons of fun on the water!

The windsurfing board

A windsurf board will typically be shaped/designed to perform for a specific windsurfing discipline. These windsurfing disciplines are wave, freestyle, race and freeride. In addition, there is also windfoiling. Windfoiling can simply be said to be windsurfing where the normal windsurfing fin is replaced with a hydrofoil. Regardless of the windsurfing discipline, we at Westwind have the equipment that suits the respective board and discipline.

To get started windsurfing, you need windsurfing equipment consisting of a windsurfing board and a windsurfing rig. Windsurf rig is the name for the combination of: windsurfing sail, mast, boom, mast foot and mast extension. The term windsurfing equipment thus covers a number of products that together offer tons of fun on the water!

The mast

The windsurf sail, like the windsurf board, is produced with the respective windsurf discipline in mind. Therefore, you will typically sail with a board and sail that are made with the aim of performing as best as possible within one windsurf discipline. Windsurf sail sizes are always given in square meters (m2). Check out our large selection of windsurf sails here. The mast The windsurf mast will either be an RDM mast or an SDM mast. The RDM (reduced diameter mast) mast is narrower compared to the SDM (standard diameter mast) mast. Typically, the windsurf sail will state which of the two mast types is recommended in combination with the sail. The windsurf mast can be made of pure carbon fiber, pure fiberglass or a combination of the two fiber fabrics. The size of the mast will always be in centimeters. Mast extension and mast base

To connect the windsurf rig to the board, you need two important parts. These are the mast extension and the mast foot. The mast foot must be clamped to the board. The mast extension is used to trim the windsurf sail, and is connected to the mast foot after trimming.
