Description
Like what we achieved with the SUPER_HERO D/LAB sails, our aim was to create true game changers with our new wave board range.
What we learned from the SUPER_HERO D/LAB development is that you need to work on every detail to make a real, decisive improvement.
Switching our board technology from the industry-standard semi custom method to our exclusive FULL CUSTOM PRODUCTION laid the foundation for everything else (see TECH AND SHAPE DETAILS below for more). This technology raised our weight-to-strength ratio to a whole new level. It also finally allowed us to make every single prototype in the factory, just like we have been doing with our sails for over 30 years. Because the best prototype is worthless if it can’t be copied or feels different due to varying materials, methods, or weight.
To make a similar leap in 3D design, we decided to have our own CAD program developed. Compared to the industry-standard Shape3D software, our AI_BOARD_3D program is much more precise and lets us carry out even very complex shaping tasks like the brand-new SYNCED CURVES CONCEPT.
DESIGN GOALS >> SHAPE DETAILS
Our main goals were to create designs with a wide range of use that are easier (less tiring) and more radical on the wave.
Basically, we wanted to create a more stable base that’s great for getting going and riding over white water. But at the same time, the boards should turn even more sharply when riding down the line, which are usually opposing features you can’t combine.
Here are the 3 main shape details our team has developed over the last 2.5 years (see TECH AND SHAPE DETAILS below for all other details):
STABLE YET RADICAL CONCEPT
Our wave boards are 1-2cm wider than most other boards.
- The extra width gives a more stable base. This makes our wave boards as steady and energy-saving as a board 5 liters bigger when drifting/floating and riding over white water.
- Most importantly, the added width leads to a stronger outline curve. This improves manoeuvrability, making the board turn as sharply as a board 5 liters smaller.
The result is an unbeatable wide range of use.
3-STAGE ROCKER
Unlike the usual smooth rocker curve, our entire shape concept is based on a segmented rocker line. This reflects that the bottom turn and top turn are two completely different moves. While you start the bottom turn mainly over your front foot (depending on the wave size), the top turn is only done over the back foot. This change in stance is the biggest challenge, especially when learning to wave ride – which becomes much easier with our 3-STAGE ROCKER.
- The straight rocker section between the front and back straps creates a super stable sailing stance/base so you’re perfectly in tune with your board when going out or riding the wave, switching between bottom and top turns.
- The nose rocker starts just in front of the front straps, helping to engage the front rail when leaning forward on the bottom turn.
- KICKSTARTER TAIL: The tail rocker behind the back strap stays very moderate until the last 4-5cm from the tail, where it changes into a progressive tail kick. This tail kick gives a perfect water release and, combined with the flat rocker line, results in a kickstarter-like burst of speed as soon as you push a bit with your back foot. Plus, the tail kick obviously allows for very tight top turns when snapping the board back with your back foot.
SYNCED CURVES CONCEPT (rocker> Outline, rocker, and rail shape are the three key elements that decide how a board feels and performs. In every rocker and outline, there are spots with more or less curve. The same goes for the rail curvature, which changes a lot. To stop these three curves from working "against" each other, the top priority is to synchronise them. This means that in areas with a stronger rocker curve, the outline curve is also stronger and the rails have a sharper curve, and vice versa. As far as we know, this complex 3D task can only be done by our own AI_BOARD_3D software. We began testing this concept on existing boards and the improvements were so impressive that we included this design feature in all 2026 boards. Both ULTRA GRIP and GRIP are made as World Cup Wave boards to satisfy the very best in all kinds of conditions and spots worldwide. Here are the differences: A. ULTRA GRIP Focus on ground swell >< windy Euro waves (not for onshore conditions) Ideal for Maui, Cape Town, Brittany, Cabo Verde, Ireland, Chile, Mauritius B. GRIP Focus on Euro waves >< logo-high ground swell Ideal for Klitmøller, Canary Islands, North Sea, Kanaha YOUR NEW ULTRA GRIP SLS DREAM MACHINES ARE READY AND WAITING FOR YOU TO TAKE YOUR RIDING TO THE NEXT LEVEL!
