Maintenance of your carbon boom

Rinse the boom thoroughly with fresh water after every sailing session - especially after contact with salt water, sand and sunscreen, which can degrade both the grip and fittings over time. Let it dry completely before storing it away, and avoid keeping it clamped to the mast extension or with the fittings under constant tension.

Store the boom in a dry, cool place in a padded boom bag, preferably lying flat - and avoid direct sunlight and extreme temperatures, as UV radiation and heat can damage the carbon construction and EVA grip over time. Check the clamps, screwdrivers and tail fittings regularly for wear, and always tighten the screws evenly to avoid unnecessary strain on the carbon tube.

During transport, a padded bag or boom cover is recommended to protect the tube from impacts and scratches. Avoid stepping on the boom or placing heavy equipment on top of it, and optionally lubricate the clamp screw lightly with silicone spray for smooth and easy adjustment. With proper care, your carbon boom will last for many seasons.
